I have an issue when communicating with active duty service members… Why?

Question by Honda Hooligans: I have an issue when communicating with active duty service members… Why?
A couple years ago I spent time in the Delayed Entry Program “DEP” for the USMC. I was in college, realized I wasn’t happy, and went to enlist. When I went to MEPS, I was having lower back pains and was seeing a chiropractor (albeit not a very good one, which I didn’t know at the time) so I told my Marine recruiter and he told me to lie about it. So I did, and got in just fine.
I spent about a year in the DEP before recruit training, during which time my LONG time friends all deserted me (because I was ‘leaving’ them, gang-mentality sortof) I gave up almost my entire family outside my immediate (because they support my child-molesting uncle, who raped my sister,) didn’t have a job (because I had money saved and was leaving to bootcamp,) and was seeing a chiropractor for my back, and realized I was happier than I’d ever been in my whole life. I was confident, in incredible shape, was the leader among other potential recruits, had a golden career ahead of me, and was getting married upon my return from basic.
Well I didn’t get to leave when scheduled because a paperwork error, ran out of money, and my back issues were getting worse. Then it started hurting real bad, and so I couldn’t go, I can likely no longer get into the military ever again. So for the past couple years I’ve been trying hard to get a life together for myself, but it is what it is.
Anyway, despite the fact that everybody looks at me like I’m the scum of the earth for not getting in like I’d planned, and my resume has an unaccounted time that makes it look like I just sat around and did nothing for an entire year, I gained immensely from the long time I was “enlisted.” I nail job interviews (when I can get them), am a fitness junkie, have loads of initiative, relentless bearing, and feel like a better person than before.
But, for some reason whenever I talk to current or former active duty service members about their time in service, I feel like a stupid bumbling idiot. I never served and thus have no clue what it was like, but contrarily, I’m intensely interested in it. I love hearing about it, have loads of questions, and I suck on the details like they’re candy, but by the time the conversation is over, I end up feeling like such an ignorant, clumsy, insensitive ***, I don’t know what to do with myself. I feel like I want to relate, but I know I can’t, don’t, and never can. And it always feels like the conversation was me being stupid… I’d imagine that’s how I’d feel if I was illiterate around someone who could read.
What’s my issue? How am I supposed to feel? How am I supposed to act?

a veteran is someone with at least 180 days of consecutive active duty service.
act like someone who was never in the marines because technically you never were. graduation of basic training makes you a marine.
just continue to be interested, respectful, and humble.

How would you go about starting an elite taskforce consisting of, but not limited to young teens?
think “cadet program” only the training would be allot tougher
whose primary objectives is emergency response.
and would encorporate many aspects, such as lifegaurd training, moderate level of first aid, medical skill, self defence, and more extreme than usual fitness.
the objective of the team (program) would be to train people in the skills nessassary for various fields such as coast gaurd, military, police, first response teams.
and such a team would be extemly tough and strong
its an idea, please give thoughts

Question by J: Does anyone know any really excellent exercise programs?
I just completed the “Final Phase Fat Loss Program” from Roman Fitness systems. It was an excellent program that combined a combination of strength, lactic, dynamic, and density training formats into a 8 week super intense program. I am very pleased with it and had a great time doing training.
Now that I’m finished, does anyone know another great program I can get on? Preferably very intense and will almost guarantee results? I enjoy challenges……
