Ruffles (or other products) “REDUCED FAT” or “low fat” versions. Don’t you think the FDA is MISLEADING us here?

Question by Jas: Ruffles (or other products) “REDUCED FAT” or “low fat” versions. Don’t you think the FDA is MISLEADING us here?
I need your opinion regarding labeling, specific to the following scenario:
Whenever I shop, I always turn the product over and look to see how much “saturated fat” (the bad fat) the product contains. So today I compared Ruffles regular potato chips and their “REDUCED FAT” one. Yes, the total fat was “reduced”, but the SATURATED fat (the bad stuff) was EXACTLY the same (5g per serving). So, I figured “that’s tricky, that means what’s “REDUCED” is the GOOD fat”. Indeed, when I checked those were both less. THAT’S A LITTLE DEVIOUS TO ME… but I guess they figure maybe 1 in a thousand people who buy it will actually notice that. They’ll just reach for the more pricey “reduced fat” one… but the consumer suffers because not only are they paying more if I’m not mistaken, but they’re health suffers that much more because, if you read a 100 articles on saturated vs monounsaturated and polyunsatured fat, the bottom line is everyone knows saturated fat is the bad stuff and the unsaturated fat (except for the one exception “trans fat” which has one trans double bond) is the good stuff.
What do you guys think about this? Is this a good observation or am I very evil, bad, baaad man?
oh yeah, this is not necessarily a statement about that Ruffles, a product a like. It’s more a general statement AND question (to someone who knows) about what FDA rules are.
Bottom Line: Do you or do you not agree that the FDA should change this rule allowing products to call themselves “REDUCED FAT”, because customers think that means MORE HEALTHY (at the very least)…so it’s misleading to the general public whose health consequently suffers? Captain Obvious will respond, “”Reduced fat” means less overall calories per serving from fat, no matter what kind of fat”. I don’t want to hear from Captain Obvious. Hope instead for an intelligent answer (doesn’t have to agree with me!)

Your argument has a lot of merit.
However you probably don’t have a lot of money.
The labeling rules have been manipulated by heavy lobbying pressure from many manufacturers.
Just like the garbage 1994 law that allows all these diet pills, mass gainers, and concentrated homeopathic herbs to be legally sold.
If someone can make a product as ridiculous as the “Shake weight” and be able to claim it will give you the same work out in 6 minutes as a 30 minute gym workout and not be shut down then why mess with the labeling of a few grams of fat?
What do you think? Answer below!

Question by J: Does anyone know any really excellent exercise programs?
I just completed the “Final Phase Fat Loss Program” from Roman Fitness systems. It was an excellent program that combined a combination of strength, lactic, dynamic, and density training formats into a 8 week super intense program. I am very pleased with it and had a great time doing training.
Now that I’m finished, does anyone know another great program I can get on? Preferably very intense and will almost guarantee results? I enjoy challenges……
