Question by britty_177: Whey protein for women?
I was looking through a fitness magazine and saw an ad for whey protein, which got me thinking “is it a good idea for women trying to get into shape, such as myself, to try whey protein?” I googled it, but didn’t really find any useful info on it for women. Does anybody have experience? (preferably women) or where I should look for info? I’ve been trying to get into shape and do try to work out regularly. I’d appreciate any comment on the subject. Also, any suggestions on what whey protein would be best? Thanks!

I used to drink whey protein shakes. I would buy the whey powder in the health food section at Target (by all the slim fast drinks and health bars). However, I stopped using it and just replaced it with a piece of chicken. The protein powder I was using was 100 calories and had 15 g of protein…a piece of chicken has the same amount of calories and around 23 g of protein. Plus, your body will absorb protein better from natural food sources anyway. Go ahead and try it, but I think it’s just a waste of time and calories since there are other means you can get protein. Cottage cheese also has a lot of protein.

Q&A: Whey Protein and fitness is it needed?

Question by Dazerothx: Whey Protein and fitness is it needed?
I’m a pretty serious football(soccer) player, and i’m really into my fitness, i often buy Health magazines and so on, and have started eating alot healthier in order to be in line with these. (Lots of chicken, salad, nuts, lean meats etc)

However in nearly all the nutrition plans i look at there is always protein shakes with “25g whey protein” and so on in them. Now to me this just seems un natural, but i’m very curious which is why i’m asking here.

Basically what i want to know is that for FITNESS (ie, quickness, endurance, sharp turns etc everything you need for soccer) am i losing out by not taking this stuff? Would i see an improvement if i began taking it, and is it healthy for me to do so?

The Whey Protein helps you to bulk up – useful if you want to put on muscle etc – it helps with recovery also.

Its not necessary just a supplement to increase muscle mass – they are usually packed with nutrients

Q&A: any suggestions for a realistic, level-headed, and down to earth fitness source…?

Question by macetang: any suggestions for a realistic, level-headed, and down to earth fitness source…?
…i am a middle-aged male who is seeking to begin a exercise program. This could be a monthly magazine at your local bookstore, or a website, just something that won’t feed you all that “bull” about “how to increasing your sexual prowess” or feed you the latest “miracle supplement” to get “ripped beyond your dreams”. Like I said, I’m middle-aged, let’s get real hear. I need encouragement, tips, and realistic goals to push for.

Thank for your answers!

P.S. Yes, I’ve got the green light from my health professional.

I’m looking for a good online source that explains muscle building (for tone, not bulk) verse weight loss in a women, so I’m curious what others will answer.

However, for what you want, I’d suggest prevention magazine. I’ve liked their exercise routines. They’re geared realistically, for real adults with a brain, not fads.
